We are staying in a building next to Damascus gate in the old city of Jerusalem. Google it if you would like. Yesterday, my friends and I went to the market in the morning. We picked up spicy olives, tomato, cheese, pita, hummus, and a giant falafel. The falafel wasn’t that good because it had been sitting around all day. Fathers and mothers in this part of the world teach their children how to sell at the market and smitty told me a story. Smitty said, the last time he was in Palestine, he would buy food from one stand and then the next day another. Eventually, he found the stand that made the food he liked the most; some people will add more ingredients to the product than others. The falafel sandwiches are loaded with vegetables and French fries and they are about 1 american dollar each.
I’m glad we are out of tel-aviv. That city disgusts me, but I made the most of it. i don't think i've ever been in a place more racist and hateful. I’m a little nervous on the bus, because I always run my mind with bad thoughts. Smitty said if I keep thinking about things like that, I’ll freeze up. The soldiers cut in front of everyone and their m16s swing into people. they are completely brainwashed. in this part of the world, you have the haves and the have nots and the israeli's have it all and further more it isn't "equal on both sides." The call for prayer in Jerusalem sounds beautiful and everyone is quiet except for the military, the police, the taxi horns, and the people from other faiths. Basically, you really need to listen if you want to hear it on this part of town. Smitty told me that when we go to Ramallah after our training, we’ll be able to hear the call to prayer every time it is called.
I made tea after our nap and did sit ups. we went through Damascus gate as the shop owners were closing up. I needed a drink, nobody drinks on this side of Jerusalem. I asked about movies that have been filmed here. Smitty told me robin hood prince of thieves was; he said it was the opening scene; when the man gets his hand cut off for stealing bread. cheers.
